#HumansOfHalkin: Meet Sam Shoyeju, Purchase Ledger Assistant

“I should be a Pittsburgh Steelers fan because I was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. My mum was visiting her sister (who luckily is a nurse) when I came into the world two months premature. We stayed out in the US until my mum was OK to come back to Mile End, East London.

I grew up until I was about 7 or 8 in a three bed maisonette with my three siblings and my parents. Then my dad bought this place on Canvey Island in Essex. It’s a retirement holiday destination so we’re the youngest family on the street by about 20 years but I love it.

I’m so glad we moved because I grew up surrounded by people who’d done well for themselves and it drove me to do the same. My brother’s ten years older than me and he saw the change too and said to me: “It doesn’t matter what you want to do Sam, just have a plan.”

So that’s what I’ve got. I want to complete my CIMA exams this year and I want to do well for myself so I can retire on Miami’s South Beach with a Pina Colada.”
